Seawinds Motel is beautifully situated on the shores of the Annapolis Basin in the historic town of Digby.
The original property was purchased by a sea captain who enjoyed a long career as a master mariner, sailing coastal routes along the East Coast. Captivated by the stunning waterfront views, he chose to build his home on this picturesque location overlooking the Basin.
During World War II, the property served as housing for Canadian Navy officers stationed at CFB Cornwallis. After the war, the owner transformed the residence to support the growing tourism industry, opening it as The Tea Cup Inn.
Over the years, the property changed ownership several times before Commander Robert Wigmore purchased it in the 1970s and operated it as a rental property.
In 1983, Richard VanTassell acquired the property and, following extensive renovations in 1991, proudly reopened it as Seawinds Motel — welcoming guests to enjoy its rich history and beautiful seaside setting.
In 2024, Troy VanTassell, who retired from the Canadian Armed Forces as a Warrant Officer, took over the family business with his partner Marika Jack and they continue the tradition of hospitality and dedication established by previous generations.
Nestled along the beautiful shores of the Annapolis Basin, Digby is a picturesque seaside town known for its stunning coastal views, rich maritime history, and warm, welcoming community.
Often called the “Scallop Capital of the World,” Digby is famous for its world-renowned Digby scallops, harvested fresh from the nearby Bay of Fundy. Local restaurants serve some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste, making the town a must-visit destination for food lovers.
Nature enthusiasts will be captivated by the dramatic tides of the Bay of Fundy — the highest in the world — as well as opportunities for whale watching, kayaking, hiking, and exploring scenic coastal trails. The breathtaking waterfront sunsets over the Annapolis Basin are unforgettable.
History buffs can explore nearby historic sites, charming fishing villages, and lighthouses that tell the story of Nova Scotia’s seafaring heritage.
Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventure, fresh seafood, peaceful ocean views, or small-town charm, Digby offers a relaxing coastal escape you’ll want to return to again and again.
